Das Bauwerk ist aus der Burgkapelle hervor gegangen. Die Kirche d\u00fcrfte mit eine der \u00e4ltesten Kirchen Nordbayerns sein. Man geht davon aus, dass ihr Ursprung bis ins 11. Jahrhundert zur\u00fcck reicht, wobei das \u00e4lteste Bauteil das romanische Gew\u00e4ndeportal aus Sandstein ist. Die geheimnisvollen Wetzrillen in dem Portal geben noch heute R\u00e4tsel auf.<\/p><p>Auch die Steinmetzzeichen \u00fcber dem Portal sind bis heute nicht erkl\u00e4rbar. Die m\u00e4chtigen Mauern sind mit Granit- und Sandsteinquadern verblendet. An der S\u00fcdseite wird der Kirchenbau von m\u00e4chtigen Pfeilern gest\u00fctzt. Der Dachreiter mit der Zwiebelhaube auf dem Langhaus wurde erst im 18. Jahrhundert errichtet.<\/p><p>Die Westempore war die Herrschaftsempore. \u00dcber einen h\u00f6lzernen Gang gelangten die Burgherren von ihrer Burg direkt in die Kirche. Der Altar stammt aus dem Jahr 1697. Er ist von vier S\u00e4ulen gerahmt. Das Altarblatt stellt die Anbetung der Hl. Drei K\u00f6nige dar. Die Kirche beherbergt sp\u00e4tgotische Figuren aus der Zeit um 1500 au\u00dferdem noch weitere, die um 1700 entstanden sein d\u00fcrften.
